Elaine--send $$

The kids need therapy to understand why their mama has stopped cooking, cleaning, talking. I'm going to throw the covered wagon puzzle back in it's box!

Somewhere Out There

I've been singing this song in my head all day, after realizing that tonight the moon is full. (Remember, this song is from that mouse movie where the mouse laments ever finding a soulmate, and sings about his special someone being under the same moon as he is, even as he waits to find her).

Every month when the moon was full I would stand at the top of the stairs and look at the moon hanging over the barn. Every month I would think about all the other people that had stood in that same spot and gazed at that same moon, over that same barn, during the 105 years of the farm house's life. I wondered what they were thinking about. Were they worried about their kids' health that night? Were they grateful for the peace and serenity of that farm? How many prayers were said at that window over those many years?

Last night I stood and looked out our hallway window at the (nearly) full moon. I remembered those nights at the farm and hoped that the new family was enjoying the view of the moon over the barn. Then I realized that here, at this new house, we are the first to gaze at the moon from this window. I wonder, how many lives will this home shelter over the years? Will this house be here in 105 years? And what will the world be like then?

Slowly, I felt a great peace wash over me. Everyone that I love (and many that I miss daily) are under this same moon, even as we are apart. So the cycle begins again tonight as I stand at my window and study the full moon over our little corner of North Carolina. It is the same moon that watches over all of you, and I am grateful for that connection.

New camera

I have a new camera coming. Matt found one that is identical to the one that was lost. I'm looking forward to being able to post pictures again!

Happy Father's Day to my dad and to Jerome. I hope you are having a great day, Dad. We know Jerome is not...he's in the hospital being treated for 2nd degree burns on his arms, hand(s), and torso. Seems he was helping someone (cause that's what Jerome does!)with a car problem and poof--fire. We are praying for you both today.

Matt and the kids went miniature golfing. I was set to go and then realized how hot it is. I would fry, so I'm home. Hmmm....it feels a bit like Mother's Day, to me.

We went to Mass at a different church last night and the homily was awesome. Wish I could repeat it here, but suffice it to say the priest talked about how fathers are the apostles at home. Very nice, and we enjoyed the new church, too.

We have these in our yard

I can't make the linky thing work--so you'll have to imagine you are looking at a photo of a black widow spider.

Yeah, I know, it's just not the same.

rodent warfare and brown outs

Matt wants to buy a BB gun for the rodent issue. Hmmm....2 little boys with behavior problems and a gun? Sorry. I'm not going to sign off on that one.

In other news, when it's 97*, apparently the power company doesn't have enough. We've had brown outs on and off for 2 days. I get panicky after about 15 minutes. Aaaaarrrgh.

OK, I lied.

I cannot show you the picture of the wildlife that we are seeing daily at the bird feeders. I can tell you that it is wildlife from the rodent family, and they are called "Cotton Rats" and I do not like them. Apparently, Sunnie doesn't like them either, because one was found (headless) by the deck. HA! You rotten rodent! Take that!

Praising God for His mercies

A friend's 3 year old nearly drowned yesterday at the pool. Nearly, as in she was blue, unconcious, not breathing when they pulled her from the pool. My friend told me today that she threw the little one's bathing suit away because she couldn't bear to see it. She said she couldn't close her eyes last night to sleep because she kept seeing her little girl floating face down in the pool.

When I heard the news, I went cold. Losing one of my children is my greatest fear. I don't know how I would live after that kind of loss--I know I wouldn't want to. Losing those that I never had the chance to know was enough and after those losses I didn't trust in God's mercy, I just got mad. Last night, though, I just immediately started to pray with all my heart. I trusted that God would work this one out, and I am so very, very grateful for the way in which He did.

At Tae Kwon Do tonight, she was running around like any 3 year old in a pink tutu. Happy, carefree, healthy. Her mama was still shaken, it was obvious.

I am so guilty of not treating everyday as the gift that it is. So guilty of not treating everyone of my family members like the irreplacable treasures that they are. God, help me remember.
